Impress your guests with an event in one of the Town Hall’s lavish rooms. Built in 1898 this prestigious building with decorated rooms, grand staircase, stained glass windows and oil paintings, is rich with history and glamour and can accommodate large-scale to intimate events.

The Town Hall hosts a variety of events from Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties, to murder mysteries and conferences. The spaces are fully licensed and offer catering; also guests benefit from town centre parking for 60 vehicles.

Moot Hall

Capacity: up to 260 people

This grand location is the largest space within the Town Hall and features a high-arched ceiling and a wealth of natural light through its stained-glass windows. The Moot Hall annually hosts the Oyster Feast, Mayor Making event and many other civic functions and is the ideal venue for hosting a party or special event.

Its scale makes it an ideal environment to hold more intimate board meetings, brainstorming sessions, and team meetings. It is also a great alternative from the Grand Jury Room for an intimate gathering or dinner. Located on the first floor, the room can be accessed via the marble staircase or lift.

The Council Chamber

With its painted dome ceiling and unique horseshoe shaped bench seating layout, the Council Chamber is ideal for business meetings, presentations and seminars. A truly impressive room, the glorious painted domed ceiling, commissioned by artist Charles Baskett, classically depicts the twelve months of the year and two stained glass windows portray the Roman history of the City. The Chamber is situated on the first floor of the Town Hall and can be accessed via the first marble staircase or a lift.

The Mayoral Suite

Old Library

Originally Colchester’s first Town Centre public library, the Old Library is designed in classic Jacobean style and oozes history. With its white, lime-washed walls, high ceilings, curved timber gables and mullioned windows, it’s an elegant space that is flooded with natural light by day and when twilight falls transforms into a glamorous location with sparkling chandeliers, stained glass windows and opulent marble bar. With two entrances and ornate stairs leading from the Colchester’s historic West Stockwell Street, this fully self-contained suite with reception, kitchen and cloakroom is an ideal setting for wedding ceremonies, receptions and parties.

Community Room

Capacity: up to 45 people

The beautiful ground floor Community Room operates as the Colchester Registry Office. This room operated Monday – Friday, every hour on the hour between 10am and 4pm.
