Steeped in over 2,000 years of history.

Built on the foundations of the Roman temple of Claudius, Colchester Castle was built under orders from William the Conqueror in 1076, when Colchester became the first Roman capital of Britain. In 1727 it was bought as a wedding gift for Charles Gray who created a private park around the Castle in the 1740s. In 1922, the Castle and what we now know as Castle Park were acquired by Colchester City Council and is now a public museum and events venue.

The Castle provides a historically unique venue for conferences, lectures, awaydays, workshops, weddings, parties and special celebrations. The Castle's entrance has a drawbridge perfect for group photographs.
