How do I book a ceremony?

You can contact the Town Hall to check the availability of the Community Room. Once you have booked the room with the Town Hall you will need to contact the Registrars’ Office to book a Registrar to officiate the ceremony and also book a meeting with the Registrar to give notice. How much does it cost?

The fee includes the price of the room and registrar.  Please refer to the Essex County Council web page here for prices, Get married or form a civil partnership: Book and pay for a registrar – Essex County Council, look under “Ceremonies in Community Venues”.

How do I pay?

After booking the room with the Town Hall you will need to pay your fees to the Registrars’ Office, this can be done when you book your Registrar. Please note no fees are payable to the Town Hall

How many guests can be seated in the room?

The Community room is the ideal setting for smaller ceremonies, seating up to 45 people including the wedding couple. Wedding flowers and a music system are included with the room.

Can I decorate the room?

It is not possible to decorate this room, but you are welcome to bring in your own wedding flowers

Is parking available?

No parking is provided at the venue apart from two disabled bays for blue badge holders, it is not possible to reseve these. The closest car parks to the venue are St Marys Car Park and Nunns Road. Please note the High Street is now a bus lane, which means only buses, taxis and motorcycles are permitted to use it.

How do I play my music?

There is a sound system in the room and you will need to supply the music on CD, smart phone or tablet. Please ensure your device has a 3.5mm headphone socket cable. If your device does not have a 3.5mm headphone socket you will need to supply an adaptor.  You will need to nominate a guest to play the music on the day, please discuss your music choices with the Registration Service in advance of the day.

Ceremony Timings on the Day

Partner 1: must arrive 30 minutes prior to the ceremony to be interviewed by the registrar.

Partner 2: party must arrive 15 minutes prior to the ceremony to be interviewed.

If you are both meeting the registrar together please arrive 15 minutes before your ceremony time.

Your guests must arrive 15 minutes before the ceremony time, they will not be allowed access to the community room until this time. You must then vacate the Town Hall within 15 minutes after the ceremony.

Can I take photos in the Ceremony Room?

Photos are permiited in the Community Wedding room and main reception area
